Art in Addis

Give a cultural institution its first real digital presence — one that could grow without losing its voice.

Museum of Art in AddisThe collection becomes the interface

01 / The brief

A problem worth solving.

The starting point

Introduce the museum and its artists online — a first presence that feels like the institution and can grow with it.

The design response

A four-page site: an art-led home, a split-screen menu pairing a painting with the artist index (Artist / Art Work / Exhibitions tabs), an about page with the institution’s story, and a book-a-tour reservation flow.

The visual thread

A digital home for a living culture.

A presentation palette drawn from the mood of the work. A consistent rhythm connects imagery, typography, and the path through the story.

02 / Inside the experience

Beyond the first impression.

A closer look at the content, the structure, and the details that make this project work.

01 — Inside the collection

Navigation becomes an exhibition.

The split-screen catalogue pairs artwork with an artist index. Artist, Art Work, and Exhibition views offer different ways into the collection while keeping the visual experience intact.

02 — From screen to museum

Make the next step feel like an invitation.

The tour page carries the same art-led visual language into the reservation step. Booking a visit feels like a continuation of the collection, with practical information alongside the artwork.

The visitor’s path

Every page has a purpose.

  1. 01Enter the museum
  2. 02Explore artists & artwork
  3. 03Discover the institution
  4. 04Book a tour

03 / The decisions

The thinking behind the detail.

A clean, modern design organises the museum’s story, exhibitions and visiting information into clear sequences. The interface behaves like the building: quiet rooms, strong walls, art as the only loud element.

01

The artwork is the only colour

A near-black canvas with ivory type lets Ethiopian modernism carry every page — the interface never competes with the collection.

02

A split-screen menu

A full-height painting sits beside the artist index, so browsing the catalogue feels like walking a wing, not scrolling a table.

03

Three tabs, no extra pages

Artist / Art Work / Exhibitions tabs reframe the same collection for three intents without multiplying pages.

04

Reservation as ritual

“Book a Tour” keeps its gallery voice — the form sits beside a cubist portrait with a welcome note, so the conversion step belongs to the museum.

The constraints that shaped the work
  • Introducing an institution with no existing digital footprint.
  • Presenting a dense artist catalogue without flattening it into a grid.
  • Keeping the reservation step feeling cultural rather than transactional.

04 / The outcome

What the work delivered.

A professional first impression with a durable foundation — a digital presence the institution can extend into a richer ecosystem.
