John’s Photography PortfolioPhotography with a point of view

01 / The brief

A problem worth solving.

The starting point

One portfolio that shows both the photographs and the design sense — the images must lead, but the site has to feel designed.

The design response

A five-page dark portfolio: pixel-serif identity, album chapters by discipline (branding, communication, travel, events), a bilingual Amharic editorial post, and a single-field enquiry on the contact page.

The visual thread

Let the photographs lead.

A presentation palette drawn from the mood of the work. A consistent rhythm connects imagery, typography, and the path through the story.

02 / Inside the experience

Beyond the first impression.

A closer look at the content, the structure, and the details that make this project work.

01 — Curated bodies of work

An album, not an endless feed.

Grouping photographs into albums gives each body of work its own rhythm. The viewer can choose a discipline and spend time with the images that matter to them.

02 — Visual pacing

Room for a different kind of image.

A restrained interface can hold both intimate portraits and rich, atmospheric scenes. Space and sequence keep the portfolio coherent without forcing every photograph into the same mood.

The visitor’s path

Every page has a purpose.

  1. 01Meet the photographer
  2. 02Choose an album
  3. 03Explore the story
  4. 04Start a conversation

03 / The decisions

The thinking behind the detail.

The portfolio was treated like a gallery wall: a dark, quiet canvas, generous spacing, and an interface that stays out of the way. Work is curated into albums rather than an endless feed, so each set reads as a body of work.

01

A dark, gallery-grade canvas

Monochrome work reads as prints on a wall instead of thumbnails in a grid — the interface borrows from physical exhibition design.

02

A pixel-serif display voice

The “Jonny.A” wordmark and headlines use a pixelated serif: an ownable, recognizable identity that still frames photos without competing with them.

03

Album chapters over infinite scroll

The album page splits work into four disciplines with numbered columns — curated sets that respect the visitor’s time.

04

One-field enquiry

The contact hero asks for an email and nothing else; low friction suits a photographer’s audience.

The constraints that shaped the work
  • Giving photography and web design equal billing without visual noise.
  • Keeping the viewer’s attention on the images, not the interface.
  • Balancing minimalism with enough personality to be memorable.

04 / The outcome

What the work delivered.

The final portfolio communicates both a creative eye and technical skill in one experience — a gallery that is contemporary, engaging, and unmistakably his.

Project scope & delivery · figures describe the build, not business performance.

“Johnny redesigned a few of our pages. The results were beyond expectation. He understood my vision and turned it into impactful designs.”
